Diana Best Harbour: How about a puppy as Uga VIII?
It saddened me to hear about the passing of University of Georgia mascot Uga VII (Story, "A shocking loss," Friday). He may not have been the most energetic bulldog, but his big cuddly face definitely won hearts in his short time. My sympathies go out to the Seiler family in its loss. Uga VII was a mascot to us, but he was the Seilers' pet, and the loss of a pet weighs heavily on hearts.

Although it has been said no new dog would be chosen for this season, I think that bringing in a new mascot before season's end would be beneficial, considering the season UGA football has had.
I would like to see a puppy chosen as Uga VIII - perhaps a 6-month-old bulldog with a jersey too big for him, running around the field completely unaware of his new position. Fans would be able to watch as he grows, being reprimanded for his mistakes
